Stressed? Massage Therapy Can Help

I’m Not Stressed!

As a parent it is easy to neglect the signs of increased stress. “oh I’m just tired’, we say to others, they nod – “oh yes, we know!”. However, there is a difference between not getting your full nights sleep and the physiological symptoms of stress.

Stress – The Symptoms

‘No, I’m not stressed”, I hear you say. Well, are you sure? Have you been experiencing a variety from the list below:

  • Difficulty getting to sleep
  • Waking in the night and then unable to return to sleep
  • Change of appetite
  • Inability to control your moods
  • Increase in irritability
  • Quick to anger
  • Over emotional at the smallest thing
  • Overreacting to events

All of these are manageable on their own but when they start combining it becomes a different story.

What can I do?

There are many ways to help yourself, here are just a few suggestions:

  • Drink plenty of water
  • Cut down on your alcohol intake
  • Eat regular meals to stabilise your blood sugar
  • Get outside – fresh air does wonders to many of the body’s systems
  • Talk to a friend of loved on – a problem shared is a problem halved.
  • Get a Massage!
  • Look at professional help – maybe speak to a hypnotherapist or counsellor if you need more solutions

How can a Massage help?

There is plenty of research on the physiological and emotional benefits of receiving a Massage, again here is a little breakdown for more accessible reading:

  • Lowers Blood Pressure
  • Stabilises Heart Rate
  • Increases flow of the lymphatic system
  • Engages the involuntary system – allows you to subconsciously ‘let go’
  • Take time for you
  • Feeds the skin – which is often dry when stressed
  • Provides a ‘sense of relaxation’

You can book any variety of Massage – perhaps you have a preference for Hot Lava Shells or maybe Aromatherapy. Find a Therapy and Therapist that you connect with and see how a Massage can help to alleviate some of your symptoms.

Harmonia Therapies Wellbeing Centre offers a selection of Massage Therapies alongside other Therapies, many of which can help individuals dealing with Stress
